Acer Starbreeze, HTC participated in global VR association, GVRA

HTC and Acer Starbreeze have joined Google, Oculus, Samsung Electronics and Sony Interactive Entertainment to establish a non-profit organization, the Global Virtual Reality Association (GVRA), aiming to develop and share best practices for the VR industry.

The GVRA will promote responsible development and adoption of the VR technology globally and bring the international VR community together as the technology progresses, according to a statement released by the association.

There are potential VR applications for a wide range of industries ranging from education to healthcare, design and entertainment, and related technologies involved will also contribute significantly to the global economy, said the association.

It is important that the industry is working together to establish best practices and common resources that will drive toward a total of US$120 billion investment projection by 2020, according to Rikard Steiber, senior vice president, HTC Vive.

As the VR industry is taking off, it is crucial to increase dialogue among stakeholders to ensure the building of a solid foundation to drive innovation for the years to come, said Jerry Kao, CEO, Acer Starbreeze.
