Apple joins midrange market with iPhone SE 2020 release

Priced at $399, the iPhone SE is now Apple's most affordable phone, which packs flagship internals.

Tech giant Apple just released the iPhone SE 2020 last Wednesday through a press release. With its $399 starting price, the iPhone SE joins the long list of midrange phones that are selling like hotcakes. This is Apple's strategy to leverage the smartphone market even further. As Counterpoint's research via The Verge suggests, the top selling phones last 2019 were the midrange phones instead of the premium and flagship models. With the Corona Virus pandemic still going on, unemployment rate is skyrocketing, with more than 20 million unemployment claims filed in the US alone. Consumers who are due for phone upgrades are more focused on purchasing the essentials rather than buying expensive flagship phones. This is where less expensive midrange phones like the iPhone SE 2020 and other Android mid-tier devices come into play. Global Sources Verified Suppliers offer a vast array of midrange smartphones available for sourcing at the comfort of one's home via the website or the new Global Sources app.

The iPhone SE 2020 is a follow-up to Apple's previously released iPhone SE back in 2016. The latter had the shell of an iPhone 5s. In contrast, the current 2020 version adopts the iPhone 8 model's body. Per CNET's analysis, the new SE model is aimed at consumers who don't want to spend over $700 on a mobile device but still want the best specs and for those who still prefer smaller, compact phones that can fit into their pockets. The three storage options are 64GB for $399, 128GB for $449 and 256GB for $549.

The second-gen iPhone SE has both its advantages and small tradeoffs. For one, the IP67-rated model adopts Apple's latest A13 Bionic processor, which is found in the iPhone 11 series. It has a 7MP front camera and its 12MP f/1.8 rear camera has Portrait Mode, Smart HDR and optical image stabilization support. The phone also has wireless charging, haptic touch, True Tone display, and Wi-Fi 6 support. Its display, however, isn't OLED unlike today's flagships. This iPhone only has a 4.7in Retina LCD screen and integrates a home button with fingerprint scanning as a security measure instead of Face ID.
