China Smartphone vendor will buy more plates and other parts from local suppliers in 2017

China-based smartphone vendors are expected to purchase more parts and components such as LCD panels from local suppliers for their smartphone production in 2017 amid their growing presence in the global market, according to sources from Taiwan handset supply chain.

Among China-based vendors, Huawei, Oppo and Vivo have gained leading statuses in the domestic market and will beef up overseas sales in 2017 to sustain their respective growth momentum, said the sources, adding that the three are also expected to rank among the world's five largest smartphone vendors in 2017.

Growing smartphone shipments from China-based vendors have helped a number of flat panel suppliers, including BOE Technology, Truly Optoelectronics and Tianma Micro-electronics, ramp up their shipments in 2016, indicated the sources.

China-based smartphone vendors purchased a majority of flat panels needed for their production from Taiwan-based display suppliers, including AUO and Innolux, previously, said the sources.

China-based smartphone chipset solution supplier HiSilicon Technologies is also expected to see its shipments expand substantially in 2017 thanks to growing smartphone shipments from parent company, Huawei, said the sources.

Huawei has shipped over 100 million smartphones so far in 2016 and is expected to reach its goal of shipping 140 million units set for the year.
