Huawei increase its share in global smartphone, notebook and tablet markets in 2017

China-based Huawei Technologies is expected to step up its cooperation with Taiwan-based ODMs to ramp up its share in the global smartphone, notebook and tablet markets, according to sources from Taiwan's IT products supply chain.

Huawei is expected to continue to expand its smartphone portfolios to compete with local rivals in all segments, said the sources, noting that it will continue to release its newly developed Nova-series products to woo younger generations, while directly taking on rivals including Oppo and Vivo.

The vendor will also continue its double brand policy and will release more Honor-brand products to strengthen its online sales, while optimizing chipset solutions from HiSilicon Technologies to roll out high-end models.

To counter aggressive overseas expansion projects by Oppo, Vivo, Lenovo and Xiaomi, Huawei has also been strengthening its presence in Western Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, the sources added.

Despite slower-than-expected sales of its notebook products in 2016, Huawei plans to launch its new 13- and 15-inch series notebooks in 2017, revealed the sources, indicating that Huawei is expected to place ODM notebook orders with the Foxconn Group.

Huawei's sales of tablet products have been better than expected in 2016, thereby encouraging it to set a higher shipment target for 2017, said the sources.
