Paper said:HTC to ship 1.5 million HTC Vive VR devices in 2017

HTC is expected to ramp up shipments of its HTC Vive VR devices to 1.5 million units in 2017 compared to 400,000 units expected for 2016, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report, citing sources from international securities investment houses.

HTC is also expected to be able to reduce the overall BOM (bill of materials) for the VR device, and therefore lowering down the ASP of the Vive in 2017, said the paper.

Additionally, the impact of the recently released Sony PS VR devices on sales of the Vive will be limited due to different terminal applications, add the paper.

HTC is scheduled to hold an online investors conference for its third-quarter performance on October 25.

HTC is expected to continue to operate in red in the third quarter despite an 18% sequential increase in sales to NT$22.2 billion (US$698.48 million) during the July-September period, the paper estimated.

The company's stock price stayed flat at NT$91.20 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) during the October 17 session.
